The story continues.
Well I now had the fly sorted the only remaining job was to seal the tent floor.

The problem
Waking up wet with puddles over the floor of the tent + drips of water through the fly.
The answer
McNett Tent Sure Tent floor sealant. (TFS)

The link
http://www.mcnett.com/ look under tent.

Comes in a bottle (8oz) as a white runny liquid.

Basically go through the same pain in cleaning off the old seal tape and thoroughly clean the tent.
In my case the whole lot went into the front loader for a long needed wash (11yrs camping), after Id stripped off the old tape and glue.
When clean and dry apply the Seamgrip to any seams and allow 24hrs to dry.
Buy a couple of cheap FOAM type paint brushs to apply the TFS.
Keeping the fabric stretched tight pour a small puddle of TFS onto the area concerned and paint it about in one THIN coat, dont let it puddle.
I found this was quite easy to do with the foam brush, keep going until you have coated the entire floor/fly, brush out any puddles that settle while still wet. Allow 24 hrs to dry.
Keep the job as flat as possible and dont let the painted areas contact each other as they will stick together.
This stuff drys clear and a little shiny if its been kept thin.

I have applied this to both the tent fly and the floor.

Does it work?

Well I basically sat the tent in a puddle of water for an hour and it only had 1 small wet spot at the end of that time. Last time I was camping the entire bloody floor was soaked, the Titanic kept more water out.
This time no leaks through the fly after a 10 min blast with the hose (tank water)
So at this time Ill say yes, it works.

Im fairly happy with the results, I do however reserve the right to bag or praise this stuff after my next wet camping adventure, time will tell but the test in the backyard was very positive.

Thanks Pete.

I have had a tube on my bench for months for resealing my old gortex raincoat and was wondering if it will work.

I do however reserve the right to bag or praise this stuff after my next wet camping adventure,

As we all do.

Well the tent finally got used in anger the other weekend at the Ruptured Budgie Motorcycle rally put on by the Moto Guzzi owners club of QLD at Mingoola on the QLD/NSW border.
Nothing remarkable except I stayed dry and warm when the Cold front that dropped temps and snow in the west hit at about 10 pm on the saturday night. We had about 30kt winds and driveing rain for about 1.5 hrs.
No drip drip drip off the roof or puddles comming up through the floor this time.
The stuff works, much cheaper than haveing to buy a new tent.

Careful with the old fart tag, Im only a couple of years behind you.
The calis are a good ride, go reasonably well, handle, stop way above the capabilities of most of the other cruisers, especially that american clothing company abomination.
